Frequently Asked Questions

Who attends the Orientation program?

Our two-part program is designed for all traditional undergraduate students starting college for the first time in the fall and is a pivotal part of acclimating to college life. Families are strongly encouraged to attend Summer Orientation with special Family Orientation sessions offered.

Is the Orientation program required?

Yes, students are required to attend both parts of the program because we know our students do better both academically and socially in their first semester when they’re prepared! There’s a good amount of information to take in and tasks to complete and bringing students to campus in the summer is a great way to set you up for success (and celebration) in the fall.

If I’m local to Northeastern Pennsylvania, do I need to attend both programs?

YES! Every new first-year student, regardless of where they live, should attend both Summer Orientation and Fall Welcome. We have different resources prepared for both residents and commuters. Even if you feel you the campus well enough, you’ll benefit from important community building events.

If I live out of state, do I need to attend both programs?

YES! We know it’s a commitment to make a trip to campus over the summer, and we’ve packed so much into this single day session, so you’re prepped and ready for Fall Welcome. Please be sure to confirm your registration for your Summer Orientation session before booking any travel.

Where can I find my Monarch Account information?

You will receive the web address for King’s Email and the login credentials for your new Monarch account in your welcome letter, which is sent to the email on file you’ve used for your application. Please refer to the timeline on our Orientation page for the timing of when the letters are released.

What if I can’t attend any of the Summer Orientation session options?

We understand our dates may not ultimately work for some families. If you can’t attend, please indicate that on the registration form, and the Orientation Team will reach out about your next steps.

What if I can no longer attend the Summer Orientation session I registered for?

Please email orientation@kings.edu and we can see if another date works or talk through next steps if you can’t attend at all.

Do students and parents spend the entire day together at Summer Orientation?

No. Students and families will attend some sessions together and some activities separately.

What’s covered at Summer Orientation?

In advance of attending, you’ll find instructions in your Monarch Account to complete your New Student Questionnaire and applicable placement testing so that when you arrive at your one-day Summer Orientation session, you will review your class schedule. You’ll also learn about resources, activities, expectations, next steps, and, of course, you’ll meet other students as well as faculty and staff. Making early connections with other students, faculty, and staff and knowing your way around campus before classes begin makes a huge difference!

What’s covered at Fall Welcome?

Fall Welcome is all about three key elements: getting more information about academic, student success, and wellness resources; meeting with advisors one more time; and then celebrating and immersing yourself in our community! This three-day event (Thursday through Saturday) allows you to comfortably acclimate to King’s with Sunday being a free day. The first day of class can be stressful making sure you get to the right places at the right times. But since you’ve attended both Summer Orientation and Fall Welcome, you’ll confidently know campus and who to ask for help if you need it.

How do I register for Summer Orientation and Fall Welcome?

Registration forms for both Summer Orientation and Fall Welcome will be released to your Monarch Account.

What do I have to do before Summer Orientation?

Once you log into your Monarch Account, you’ll see a numbered list of tasks to complete prior to Summer Orientation (including registering for the date that works best for you). You’ll also have a few tasks to complete after Summer Orientation, which will also be sent to you by email, clearly numbered.

What do I bring to Summer Orientation?

Just bring yourself and your family! We’ll provide a folder that includes the materials you’ll need. You might want to bring a pen to jot down notes (but we’ll have those, too). You’ll be moving both inside and outside throughout the day, so please check the weather before coming and dress appropriately.

When we arrive for Summer Orientation, where do we go?

Like most events you’ve attended on campus, you’ll park in the Holy Cross Hall parking lot and check in on the first floor of the Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center. Once you’re here, we’ll guide you through the rest of the day.

When do I get my ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú ID?

One of your first tasks following Summer Orientation is to upload your preferred photo in our Residence Life Portal (you can choose to have your photo taken at Summer Orientation as well). We’ll make your ID card so it’s ready for pick up at Fall Welcome! Check your Monarch Account for information on this step when it’s released.

I need accessibility accommodations—what should I do?

On each registration form for Summer Orientation and Fall Welcome, you’ll have the opportunity to request any accommodation as well as disclose any allergies or dietary restrictions.
