Principal’s Monthly Message

The September 2017 issue of Dr. LeFlore’s monthly newsletter was distributed to families via email today, and is now posted online. Printed copies are available in the school office.


September District Update

The PTO’s District Affairs Officer, Lara Fuchs, will provide periodic updates. Here is the latest news from Lara:

Applications for Magnet and Gifted Schools for the 2018-2019 school year are now open on the SLPS website. Current students do not need to reapply, but if you have a child not yet enrolled in SLPS Magnet or Choice Schools, now is the time to apply. Please spread the word about how great an SLPS education can be, and encourage your friends and neighbors to apply. For more information visit: http://slpsmagnetschools.org/site.php

Currently, the District is governed by an administrative board made up of 3 appointed members. There will be much discussion in the coming months about whether the elected school board should resume control of the district given the recent accreditation. The next SAB meeting will take place on September 28 at 5:45 p.m. at 801 N 11th Street. A proposed property tax increase to support the schools will be discussed and open to public commentary. For details: September 28 Tax Rate Hearing
